The families of young people lost after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Switzerland's ski resort are facing an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and requesting clues about their children online.

The fire ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Circulated video depict the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have warned that it could take considerable time to identify the victims of the fire, which killed 40 people and injured another 119. Officials noted on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts continuing to identify the final individuals.

In the interim, relatives have been posting on social media to request clues about their friends who were in attendance that fateful night.

Desperate Searches for the Missing
