Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League season.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club directors as they begin the search of hiring a fresh head coach.
Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock choice given he was released by the club in December last year.
The former West Ham United player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
