A woman indicted with stalking Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a phone message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the court learned call records and evidence recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout that period.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported child disappearance cases and is still open.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

One phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I know what I believe."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What then? Is that not significant for you?"

"I do not need money, I have a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.

The panel was advised that through emails, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a bid to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who collated the information, informed the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to close associates of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.

On that date, the father answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will persist and I plan to establish my point."

The court heard the co-defendant established a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' property in that area in December 2024.

Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had contacted via communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the period before the visit to the village, Leicestershire, in December 2024.

The court learned correspondence between the two accused, in last November, planning endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from silverware at a dining venue.

"We have to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the visit to their house, the defendant sent a text which stated: "We find ourselves sat near the McCanns' house with our headlights off like detectives. I had hoped to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
